Artemisia scoparia Waldst. & Kit. has been observed since some years on the Braunschweig main goods Station. It is the first record of this asiatic steppe plant for Lower Saxony. Because Artemisia scoparia is very rare in Germany, the record in Braunschweig is the reason for discussing characteristics, distribution, and community ecology on the basis of the hitherto published literature. This annual / biannual species has establishing chances for Central Europe only in open thermophilous grasslands on rock soil as well as in open ruderal communities (Dauco-Melilotion, Sisymbrion) with little productivity on poor soil layer.
